John : Hey Arnab, its been a while. How are you doing? Can you tell our readers a little about yourself?

Arnab : Hey John. Nice to catch up after a while. I’m doing good. Hi everyone, I am Arnab or Arnie as my mates would call . I am a PhD student at the University of Oxford working on generative models for videos and 3D graphics using Machine Learning techniques.

John :  You had interned with us in 2016 winters as a part of our ‘Wintern’ program. How did that happen and what were your expectations when you started your internship at WeCP?

Arnab : I was in India then and was enhancing my skills on Natural Language Processing. A friend of mine told me about WeCP and the stuff that they have been doing, the idea and their vision. It really excited me. So I applied in the ‘Wintern’ program and got selected. I was told about my project and objectives beforehand.  It was based around creating an NLP based application which would optimize the problem creation process. I wanted to contribute in a significant way by reducing the time it takes to create a problem thereby improving the operations and increasing profitability of the business.

John :  So can you tell us about your experience while working here at WeCP?

Arnab : It was quite an enriching experience to be honest. I got to work on projects I loved and was able to develop a handful of tools which hopefully was useful to WeCP.

John :  WeCP gives you complete ownership of the tasks that are assigned to you. Which task that you owned at WeCP was your favourite?

Arnab : A couple of cognitive science projects were my favorite. One was an intelligent information extraction system based on Machine learning and Natural language processing. The application could be used quickly and the impact on the operations was quite evident.

John :  In hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently during your stay at WeCP with respect to the work that you did?

Arnab : The work that I did at WeCP was second to none. However, I would have liked to spend some more time working on the technologies that WeCP works on. I worked for 2 months and it just left me wanting for more.

John :  Where and what are you currently working on?

Arnab : I am currently working with Professor Matthias Niessner at the Technical University of Munich in Germany on Textured 3D Reconstruction of objects from 2D images.

John :  What are your plans for the future?

Arnab : I will start my PhD at the University of Oxford from October being part of the Torr Vision Group at the Department of Engineering Science at Oxford. I will be part of St. Cross College and supervised by Professor Philip Torr.

John :  What were your takeaways from this internship?

Arnab : There were a lot of learnings from this internship. I enhanced my skills in the field of Information Retrieval and Natural Language Processing which will surely help me throughout my life. I also got to supervise some of the projects by the winter interns that was the first time I was on the other side of the mentor-mentee relationship and it was fascinating. The sense of ownership and free hand that WeCP gives you while handling the projects brings out the leader in you.

John :  Can you recall your most memorable moment here at WeCP?

Arnab : There are many. I just cannot single out one. The dinners that used to be offered graciously by the top guys was amazing. Also, can’t forget the brainstorming sessions among the interns that used to give me so much perspective on going about my work.

John :  Any message that you will like to give to our readers?

Arnab : WeCP is a grand initiative with the  grandiose vision to revolutionize the assessment industry and you should not miss the chance to bounce your ideas off to this amazing group of people who have put together a company with high ideals and values. If you think you are super smart and have got something to offer to the educational sector I urge you to consider working with these people, you will surely emerge a smarter, sharper and wiser individual.

John : Thank you so much Arnab. WeCP wishes you all the success in your future endeavors.

Arnab : Thanks John !
